Book 1 – Part 2 – The Crypt of Dartron
After resting, but before descending to a deeper level of the crypt, they returned to the room filled with smoke and were attacked by a shadow humanoid. It was invulnerable to their mundane weapons, so only the supernatural powers of Kyran and Yriadel could defeat it. Within the room they discovered a magic dagger and a scorched key.
They descended to the lower level which was partially submerged in water. In one room, they fought giant frogs in 3 feet of water. In another room, skeletons emerged from the murky water and attacked. Traveling through a winding catacomb which was filled with the stench of rot, they were attacked by gruesome zombies. As they destroyed each zombie, it exploded in a burst of rotting, infected flesh.
They entered the vast crypt and were attacked by many skeletons, led by their skeletal champion Wotan. They defeated the enemies and rescued Breena, who was Wotan’s captive. When they lit the sacred lantern from the torch above Darton’s sarcophagus, the spirit of Dartron rose and thanked them for defeating Wotan, then he granted them some items. He revealed to them his history with Wotan, Írimë and the amulets. When he mentioned his wife Lesseth and son Dargoth, they soon realized that Glenlivet was his grandson. He noticed a striking similarity between Yriadel and Aemilia, daughter of Aráganus.
During the return trip, Sidric insisted he witnessed a beautiful woman in the forest, though no one else saw her. He said her name was Emilia and that she gazed through the trees in sorrow. On the second day of their return trip, they were ambushed by a group of goblins, but the men of Darford prevailed over all nine of the goblins without casualty. The morning after they returned to Darford, both Glenlivet and Li-Al Saar were struck down by Zombie Rot disease. With the aid of Yríadel, Li-Al recovered in 2 days and Glen recovered in 6 days.
